German euro
The euro in Germany replaced the German mark (DEM) with an exchange rate rate of 1 EUR to 1.95583 DEM.
There are three subjects depicted on the German euro coins:
- 1 euro cent, 2 euro cents and 5 cents of euro: these coins, designed by Rolf Lederbogen, report an oak twig, similar to the one present on the previous pfennig coins;
- 10 euro cents, 20 euro cents and 50 euro cents: these coins were designed by Reinhart Heinsdorff and represent the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin;
- 1 euro and 2 euro: these coins were designed by Sneschana Russewa-Hoyer and Heinz Hoyer and depict the eagle on the coat of arms of Germany.
The coins also show the 12 stars of the European Union, the year of issuing and the symbol of the German mints that coined the currency itself, which are:
- Berlin: A
- Monaco: D
- Stuttgart: F
- Karlsruhe: G
- Hamburg: J
