Austrian euro
The euro replaced in Austria the
Austrian schilling (ATS) with the exchange rate of 1 euro = 13.7603 ATS.
The Austrians euro were designed by Josef Kaiser. The pictures in the 1, 2 and 5 euro cents Austrian coins are related to typical plants
in Austria; in particular:
- 1 cent: gentian flower;
- 2 cents: edelweiss flower;
- 5 cents: alpine rose flower.
On 10, 20 and 50 euro cents coins are depicted famous buildings in Vienna, such as:
- 10 cents: Gothic cathedral of St. Stephen;
- 20 cents: Baroque palace of Belvedere;
- 50 cents: Secession.
On the 1 euro coin is depicted the famous Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The 2-euro coin shows the image of Bertha von Suttner, writer and Nobel Peace Prize in 1905.
